Modelling of Innovative Development of the Forest Industry Complex

The article aims to explore modern ways of rational and efficient use of wood resources in the context of innovative development of the forest industry. The authors identify the fact that in the process of wood processing waste leads to a significant loss of material and energy potential of wood resources. Therefore, the reduction in the generation of wood waste is an indicator of the progress of the timber industry towards reducing the material intensity of production and consumption of the products of the complex, while the inappropriate processing or dumping of generated waste into the existing ecosystem causes pollution of the environment and negatively affects the health of the population. The authors make arguments showing that woodworking can become one of the drivers of economic growth of many "forest" regions of the Russian Federation, but at present the potential of woodworking industries is not fully used. The materials of the study suggest that the main reason for this is the unresolved issues of recycling of low-grade wood, waste from logging, sawmilling, woodworking against the background of the fact that the European part of Russia has already openly recognized the shortage of wood raw materials. Therefore, today it is necessary to intensify the innovative activity of the forest industry complex and pay special attention to the development of this sphere in those territories that are rich in resources, but where forest processing is not yet among the leading industries, although it is declared one of the priorities for the development of the regional economy.
